Erik samsson
Erik Samsson is a Swedish artist working with materials such as ice, plastic, glue and metal. His practice explores how materials change and affect one another through temperature, weight, light and time.

When hot glue meets ice, it solidifies into forms that cannot be repeated. Glue can hold things together, while ice both supports and gradually disappears. Metal introduces weight and resistance. Together, these materials explore what happens when something is in the process of changing — when a form is not yet fixed.

The works also reflect on encounters between people, and on what exists before thoughts, relationships or positions have fully taken shape. Shadows become part of the work, shifting with the forms and changing with the light, reminding us that nothing remains completely still.

ES Art Residency is a small, independent artist residency in Florence, created from Eriks own experiences of the city and the role it has played in his life as an artist. Florence has been his home for the past five years, and the city, its history and atmosphere have become an important part of his creative journey. He now want to share a small part of that home with other artists.

Twice a year, one artist is invited to stay for one week, with time and space to step away from everyday life, explore Florence, develop ideas and simply create. There is no expectation to produce a specific project during the residency. Each artist is invited to leave one small original work as part of the growing ES Art Residency collection. The next residency will take place in March 2027.
